What is Tondai?

Tondai is a service that enables you to create cool new ringtones for mobile phone from any video or audio on the web! Once you've created a ringtone you can send it to your phone and use it as your new ringtone! You can also share your new ringtone with all your friends by sending it to their phones! Get started, start creating!

How do I create a ringtone on Tondai?

First you must complete the payment process. Then upload a video or audio file that you have on your computer or you can enter a URL of a YouTube video or some other audio or video on the web.

Next your file will be uploaded to Tondai, you will then be able to use the Tondai Audio Editor to decide what portion of the audio clip you would like to turn into a ringtone, add special effects, tweak the sound etc...

Then when you're happy with how your ringtone sounds enter a mobile phone number and press "Send". Your new ringtone will be sent to your phone instantly. You can then set your ringtone as your new ringtone for your phone. Enjoy!

Do I need to create an account to use Tondai?

Nope, you don't need to sign up for an account. You can start creating your ringtone right away!

Why do I have to pay for ringtones?

The payment covers the costs of providing the Tondai service. By paying a very small fee we will do all the hard work for you and you can get your newly created ringtone sent instantly to your mobile phone. Paying this fee unlocks the advanced features of the Tondai Audio Editor, and you will also be able to download a high quality mp3 of the ringtone you created directly to your computer. What can I do with the Tondai Audio Editor?

Currently the editor allows you to select a portion of the sound to extract, and run effects including reverse, "chipmunk" and "broken tape".

Can I download my ringtone to my computer once I've created it?

Yes you can! You can download the full quality tone to your PC, or a standard quality tone to your mobile.

How much does it cost for me to create a ringtone and have it sent to my phone?

Very cheap, $2.50! However please notice that your mobile operator may also charge you for the download, so please check your contract before downloading.

How much do I have to pay if I want to send the ringtone I have created to more than one phone?

Absolutely nothing! The price includes sending your ringtone to up to three numbers.

What if my friend is in another country like Australia or Chile, can I still send him/her a ringtone?

Yup, we support all countries. You can send your ringtones to almost any number, anywhere. If you cannot get a message sent to your friend, please let us know which number you sent to but the message was not received.

Can I create ringtones from copyrighted content?

In some countries there is a "fair use" law which allows you to use an extract of copyrighted content for your personal use. Otherwise you may only use Tondai if you have the express permission from the copyright holder to do so. Otherwise you can't. Doing so would be a violation of our Terms of Service as well as international copyright laws. Please only upload content you have created and own all copyrights to, or have the authorisation from the copyright holder to upload.

Great, so I received your text message with the ringtone but how do I install it on my phone?

Unfortunately there are a million different phones out there, and we cannot possibly know how to do this on all devices. When you open the link sent to you by SMS, see if your phone will directly provide you an option to set the sound as ringtone. If not, select to download the sound, then look for it using your phone's media player or file manager. Open the file and select to use it as your ringtone. Alternatively open your current profile or ringtone settings, and choose from there to change your current ringtone, and then look for the file named Tondai.

I didn't receive my ringtone, how do I resend it?

Just type in your number and click send a second time to try again. Please remember to type in your number in full international format, starting with + and your country code.
